TUESDAYS 7pm- 8:30pm

Homage to Atisha, the pioneer of Lamrim teachings!

Lamrim Teaching: Stages of the Path Towards Enlightenment
Venue: DNKL Tibetan Buddhist Center for universal Peace, Redding, CT
Teacher: Geshe Lobsang Dhargye

The Lam-rim, or the teachings on the “Stages of the Path towards Enlightenment,” becomes the foundation as well the heart of Buddhist practice. The teachings of the Buddha are vast, numbering thousands of scriptures. So there is the danger that we may get lost in an ocean of teachings without really knowing how to practice them or relate them to our daily lives. Additionally, Buddha taught various levels of teachings with many of, what might seem like, internal contradictions. The Lam-rim teachings address and solve both of these problems by giving an essential framework of practice so that even difficult texts begin to unfold as instructions or paths for spiritual progress. Lam-rim teachings also explain the inter-connection between various levels of the teachings of the Buddha. Therefore, instead of seeing internal contradictions, we begin to see how one set of teachings belonging to a particular school or scope help us understand and prepare for the higher ones.

Geshe-la will teach from Lamrim Chenmo, “The Great Stages of the Path” by the great Dharma King Lama Tsongkhapa. He will use Kyabje Phabongkhapa’s “Liberation in the Palm of Our Hands,” which is a commentary on Lama Tsongkhapa’s work.

The Lam-rim teachings are extremely relevant for all levels of Buddhist students. All are encouraged to participate in this rare blessing.

WEDNESDAYS 7pm- 8:30pm

Applied Buddhism: Meditation Techniques and Practice
Venue: DNKL Tibetan Buddhist Center for universal Peace, Redding, CT
Teacher: Translator Tenzin Bhuchung

We are delighted to announce that our wonderful translator, Tenzin Bhuchung, will be offering a series of classes* on Applied Buddhism which will focus on the means to develop Calm Abiding, also known as “single-pointed concentration.” Using guided meditation based on key Buddhist paths such as Compassion, Bodhicitta and Emptiness, this class will provide an opportunity for individual practitioners to integrate concentration and insight in a group setting.

Bhuchung will teach techniques based on Lama Tsongkhapa’s great treatise, the “Graded Path Towards Enlightenment” (Tib.: Lamrim Chenmo) as well as on the teachings given by Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa.

SATURDAYS 1:30-3PM and 4-5:30PM

On Tantric Grounds and Paths
Venue:
321 East 6th Street, Bell# 3, NY City, NY 10003
Teacher: Geshe Lobsang Dhargye

The "'tantric grounds and paths” explains the philosophy and the logic behind tantric practices pertaining to both generation stage yoga and completion stage yoga. This class will explain how one traverses the five paths and ten grounds by practicing Buddhist tantra. It will also explain the philosophy behind tantric practices like deity yoga, the use of subtle vajra body in the form of channels and chakras, the practice of illusory body, clear light and so forth. It will also include presentations on how to engage in the combined practices of the extensive deity yoga and the profound practice of clear light emptiness, of how one masters generation stage yoga and progresses to the level completion stage yoga and so forth.

Important Note: Typically, an esoteric teaching of this subject will follow a
tantric initiation and is part of the “deity practice” commentary. In an effort to open this subject to all levels of committed students, Geshe Dhargye has generously considered this special opportunity a “class,” and therefore attendees do not need to have had a prior initiation. However, it is extremely important that each student has "faith and devotion in Buddhist Tantra” and sees this as a pre-requisite to eventually committing oneself to a practice.

Please pre-register your intent to attend by emailing your full name, address and telephone number(s) to registration@dnkldharma.org. Thank you.

Tenzin Bhuchung will translate Geshe Lobsang Dhargye's teachings. We gratefully acknowledge the Dharma Outreach Program of the Kacholing Center for the services of Tenzin Bhuchung, translator and Buddhist scholar.
